Envirocare’s Competent Person Scheme
As an organisation, it is the employer’s responsibility, by law, to ensure that Health & Safety policies are fully implemented and adhered to. Producing such policies require the appointment of a Competent Person, thus ensuring all the legal health and safety requirements are met. By appointing this person, the employer is taking a significant step towards managing the organisation’s Health & Safety efficiently, however, without the role, the structure of the organisation will be affected.
In the UK, appointing a competent person(s) is a mandatory legal obligation and employers in breach of this may be prosecuted. As a Competent Person may be appointed from within an organisation, Envirocare will be able to provide the necessary support to ensure that the person is constantly updated with the necessary information and requirements, enabling the organisation to meet its most fundamental obligation.
The Role:
In the Envirocare Competent Person Scheme, Envirocare appoints one of its Health & Safety Consultants to fulfil the role of the Competent Person within an organisation.
We have found that small to medium sized organisations tend to go for the scheme as a method of minimising the time and money that they would need to spend by the alternative of employment of a full time competent person.
Once the appointment has been made, the consultant will visit the organisation, audit, assess and produce a report based on what he or she has observed. It is vital that the organisation keeps in touch with Envirocare, not only ensuring that a strong relationship is maintained, but also so that Envirocare is kept up to date with any changes taking place. As long as the relationship is maintained, Envirocare will provide guidance on all aspects of the scheme.

Method Statement
Method Statements are a cornerstone of the management of Health & Safety in the workplace. To fulfil their role, they should be specific and relevant to the job in hand and describe clearly the precautions and system of work identified during risk assessment. Everyone involved in the work needs to be informed on what the method statement says and their requirements to the employer.
After analysing the situation, Envirocare will produce a method statement that is the relevant to the job at hand, thus complying with your client’s needs and concerns.

Polish Speaking H&S Services (Ustawy Bezpieczeństwo i higiena w pracy)
If you have Polish speaking employees Envirocare is offering a new service that may be of interest to you. We offer bespoke training courses, presentations and toolbox talks in the Polish language.
The benefits are;
- Clearer health and safety awareness given to your Polish speaking staff
- Reduced risk of accidents with greater understanding of possible issues
- You will be fully compliant with regulation 10 of the Management of Health and Safety at Work Act 1999 (which states that H&S information should be pitched at the level of understanding of the employee).
The service will be managed by our Consultant Eddie Kalinowski, a fluent polish speaker, with many years experience of advising and training in health and safety. He is qualified to NVQ Level 4 in Occupational Health and safety practice, NEBOSH Certificate in Occupational Safety & Health and Fire Safety and Risk Management and a Chartered Safety and Health Practitioner (CMIOSH).
